First of all – i like some of images on the cover. I really do. I dig idea with patchwork background.
But.
If you think you getting same in book – you are sadly mistaken.
Its printed in smallest print ever. Literally. Actual pages inside of book are about half size in height of book. So eye strain is one thing.
ALL images inside are not only tiny, but printed in B&W with very bad quality. Think old style (70s?) newspaper print quality. It specially becomes funny when mr. Holmes talking on how “this looks better in B&W” – dude. We DIDNT see colour version. So we cant really judge now, can we? So nearly all postprocessing discussions about conversions & etc == worth squat.

I have purchased this and the other book in the series and now the DVD’s .
The author has a very clear writing style and if you’re fed up of reading those how to books that don’t really show anything then this book is for you. No expensive props just showing how to set up and light in many situations and as these are from the authors home it shows you don’t even need expensive studios to create a fantastic look. Highly recommended read.

I LOVED the fact that this book offered so many simple and excellent set-ups, and didn’t take 100’s of pages to do it. The instructions and photos to help you set up the poses and lighting are great, and I got a chance to use some of these ideas in a recent shoot with excellent results. I don’t know what that person who rated it one-star was thinking, but I guess to each his or her own…

I have read several books related to different aspects of photography and I have read both good and bad books. This definitively is in the first category! What I like about this book is that it shows you “behind the scene” photos of the set-up, and not just explaining it using words. It also show you how to get great results with a very basic set-up. No need to go out and buy fancy equipment. With one flash, a cardboard box and a good idea, Nigel creates some great images. It really makes me want to try out the ideas!
