Unfortunately, this book did not meet my expectations. It’s really a how-to guide for using your digital camera. I had hoped it would provide some interesting insights on photographing people/places. Sadly, it does neither.
I recently purchased Within the Frame: The Journey of Photographic Vision by David Duchemin and highly recommend it for a real book on travel photography.

Get your camera, lenses, and lots of memory cards, this is the book to take with you on your travels outside your front door. I found it well organized, easy to read, and helpful. The book is easy to carry in your kit bag, which you should do along with your manuals for your camera, flash etc. for quick access to information.

As a professional photographer who teaches photography at the college level, I am kind of a different audience for books of this type. This book covered my two main criteria: I got a few good tips, and I think it would be useful for my students. It was pretty well written, and I found its descriptions to be clear.

David Busch’s Digital Travel Photography Digital Field Book is a concise guide to the process of obtaining superior travel photographs. The first part of the book is devoted to general descriptions of image capture in the digital world along with very specific recommendations on traveling light. The author emphasizes on a minimalist attitude towards photographic gear, a refreshing change from many books and publications that are heavily gear-oriented. The second part of the book details a wide variety of the photo opportunities the average traveler will encounter, along with inspirational approaches to capturing the images. The author should be commended for repeated counsel to the reader to become familiar with their camera, and to practice many of the situations in a home environment prior to trip departure.
The book is a welcome departure from many travel photography books because of its focus on preliminary preparation and practice. I would recommend the book to those who wish to elevate their travel photos from mere snapshots to memorable images.

Very informative, detailed, user friendly, you don’t need to be photo pro to read this. I have learned a most from this one compare to another books. Read it, make notes and hit the field for some great pics.
